Reading about the Gulf Shores oil problems reminds me of the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City. The ski industry was very concerned that people would automatically assume that the ski resorts would be crowded and overpriced. They didn’t understand that the Olympics took place over only two weeks time. As a result of the unfounded assumptions, the ski resorts were un-crowded and offering all kinds of deals and low pricing.
The same false assumptions are currently leading Florida, Alabama, Mississippi and Texas beach vacation rental companies to offer deals and low pricing on un-crowded beaches. For the great majority, the beaches are still white and clean. Only a few locations have dealt with the effects of the oil spill. The others are hoping the world doesn’t give up on them.
In order to take advantage of this once in a lifetime opportunity, in June I’m heading to Galveston Beach, Texas to enjoy the beautiful coast.
